Therapeutic Foster Care (TFC) is out-of-home care by foster parents with specialized training to care for a wide variety of children and adolescents, usually those with significant emotional, behavioral, or social issues or medical needs. TFC is a distinct, powerful, and unique model of care that provides children with the positive aspects of a nurturing, therapeutic family environment combined with active, structured treatment.
The Centers’ Private Licensing Placement Agency (PLPA) Foster Care Program connects children and youth in foster care with trained and approved foster families who provide safe, stable, and nurturing homes.
Foster parents partner with The Centers and each child’s care team to support individual needs and receive ongoing training, individualized planning, crisis intervention support, behavioral health services when needed, and guidance from experienced foster care professionals.
Prospective foster parents complete required background checks, a SAFE Home Study, CPR/First Aid certification, and pre-service training, along with annual training and re-evaluation. Foster families also receive a daily reimbursement for each child placed in their home.
